Capital Berlin

Many political institutions, the media, a broad range of pressure groups, economical organizations and industrial companies have now again returned to Berlin.  Not only the new governmental district where the present parliament has found its home in the completely remodelled building of the former “Reichstag” with the adjacent office and conference complexes, library, archives and the federal chancellery but also the many ministries and embassies located all over the city give ample opportunity to reflect the formative underlying political ideals as well as the actual political everyday culture of our republic. 

Wherever you go the present is always interspersed by memories, witnesses and traces of the political past and this continuous confrontation of past and present may well give you a deeper understanding of Germany’s historical and political developments. 

Just round the corner from the governmental district the Potsdamer Platz has been rebuilt: home and representational platform for many multinational companies and a magnet for tourists and pleasure-seekers.

• Visits to a variety of institutions

Thus you can get an insight into the functioning as well as the difficulties and problems of our parliamentary democracy while admiring and/or criticizing a whole lot of modern architecture.
